| The American Legion was chartered by Congress
in 1919 as a patriotic, war-time veterans organization, devoted to mutual
helpfulness. It is a not-for-profit community-service organization which

J. W. Mathers, Jr. was one of the first men killed
from this
area. He was a PFC and killed after he went overseas. He was survived
by his wife, the former Claire O'Hare and a child. His mother and
sister also were survivors. His mother was a charter member of the Unit an
passed away in 1974. Mathers Bridge, which crosses over the river from
Indian Harbor Beach to Indialantic, was named after him.

Sons of the American Legion
The Sons of The
American Legion was created in 1932 as an organization within The
American Legion. The S.A.L. is made up of boys and men of all ages whose
parents or grandparents served in the United States military and became
eligible for membership in The American Legion. Together, members of The
American Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary and the Sons of The
American Legion make up what is known as The Legion Family. All three
organizations place high importance on preserving our American traditions
and values, improving the quality of life for our nation's children,
caring for veterans and their families, and perhaps most importantly,
teaching the fundamentals of good citizenship.

American
Legion Auxiliary
The women of the American Legion Auxiliary make a difference in the
lives of all Americans. They educate children, organize community events
and help our nation's veterans through legislative action and
volunteerism. The Legion Auxiliary is the world's largest women's
patriotic service organization with nearly 1 million members in 10,100
communities. Auxiliary members are a unique group of women, joined in the
fellowship of volunteerism, patriotism and dedication to veterans, young
people and communities.

| The
American Legion Riders
The American Legion Riders
are members of the American Legion who are also motorcycle enthusiasts.
They can be found participating in parades, partaking in motorcycling
events, and supporting the communities in which they live, work, and play.
Members of the ALR come from the Legion, the Legion Auxilliary, and the
Sons of the American Legion. The American Legion Riders were formed...
...to participate in
parades and other ceremonies that are in keeping with the Aims and
Purposes of the American Legion.
...to promote motorcycle safety programs and to provide a social
atmosphere for American Legion members who share the same interest.
...to use our Association to promote and support programs of the
American Legion.
The American Legion Riders is
not a M/C, and does not practice M/C rules or regulations. The American
Legion Riders is family-oriented, just as is its parent organization: the
American Legion. |
